Six international flights were diverted and two domestic flights grounded after a surprise fog blanketed Sydney on Saturday morning.

Airservices Australia said no departing flights from Sydney Airport were cancelled, but most faced delays of about 20 to 30 minutes.

The unpredicted fog rolled over the city just before 7am, forcing the scheduled rate of arrival and departure of planes at the airport to be slowed.

Two arriving international flights were diverted to Brisbane, three to Canberra and one to the Gold Coast.

Sydney-bound flights from Brisbane and Tamworth were forced to turn around and wait until the fog lessened.

A spokesman for Airservices Australia said the delays would be cleared by about 11am.  Morning all, ever see the movie The Fog….well I think the remake is happening here in Sydney #Foggy — Anita (@NitafromOz) October 24, 2014 Unbelievably thick fog covering Sydney this morning #SydFog — Yosry Seden (@Yos1wt) October 24, 2014This story Administrator ready to work first appeared on Nanjing Night Net.
