A MAN has died after he was hit by a car on the Pacific Highwayon Friday night, but police are still attempting to identify the deceased.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses after the man was hit about two kilometres south of Coolongolook, north of Bulahdelah, about 7pm.
Witnesses told police the man was walking along the highway shortly before being struck by a southbound four-wheel-drive.
He died at the scene.
The man was not carrying identification.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 25 to 30 years, approximately 175cm tall, with a medium build and black hair.
The man was wearing blue jeans, work boots, and a black sweater.
The driver of the four-wheel-drive, a 53-year-old Pillar Valley man, was taken to Manning Rural Referral Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
Police will prepare a brief for the information of the Coroner.
